TIMMINS, August 26, 2013—The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the third annual Timmins Young Professionals Awards, to be held at the Porcupine Dante Club on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Organized by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals Committee, this gala event celebrates the contributions that professionals under the age of 40 make to the business community, and the community at large. Last year’s awards saw a sold-out crowd of 250, and organizers are hoping Timmins residents will continue to recognize the successes of young local talent by nominating worthy individuals across seven categories. “Timmins is a great place for young professionals to thrive, which is obvious from the sheer number who are helping to make this city a great place to work, live and play,” said Kylie Laughren, co-chair of the Young Professionals Committee. “These awards are just one way of thanking them for their efforts, and we strongly encourage people to take just a few minutes to nominate a young professional who goes that extra mile, whether they’re an employee, a colleague, a friend or a family member. Everybody knows someone worth celebrating, and that’s what this event is all about.” This year, awards are being offered across seven categories, including: • Young Leader • Young Volunteer • Young Dealmaker • Professional Services • Creative Spirit • Trades and Technology • Next-Generation Best Place to Work With six brand new awards categories this year, the event is expanding to help shine the spotlight on even more local talent, according to Lacey Rigg, co-chair of the Young Professionals Committee. “We want to make sure the 2013 Awards really recognize the full range of diverse contributions that young professionals make to our community,” said Rigg. “Whether they’re in engineering or retail, trades or photography, we feel it’s important to be able to highlight their achievements and the things they do that help make this city great.” Nomination packages are available at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, located at 76 McIntyre Road in Schumacher, or online at http://tiny.cc/YPA2013 Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 19, 2013 at 5 p.m., and can be made via email at info@timminschamber.on.ca, or in person at the Chamber. Tickets for the Young Professionals Awards will go on sale Sept. 16, 2013. The Young Professionals Committee of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce helps young professionals, entrepreneurs and community newcomers to build their business networks and develop their professional skills. The committee assists in their engagement and retention in the community by organizing monthly networking sessions and other events while contributing to Timmins’ status as a strong environment for young professionals. -30- For more information, please contact: Nick Stewart Manager of Policy, Research and Communications Timmins Chamber of Commerce policy@timminschamber.on.ca | (705) 360-1900
