Science Timmins mission is to inspire interest and participation in Science and Technology through interactive activities and informal educational programs. Its objective is to promote Science and Technology in Northeastern Ontario from James Bay to North Bay and from the Quebec Border to Hornepayne. Science Timmins offers the following bilingual programs that instill the love of Science: Regional Science Fair, Regional Science Olympics, Regional Robotics Challenge, Software Engineering Convention, Science and Arts Competition, Invention Convention, Fun with Science, Festival of Science and Technology, Science Expedition, Special Events, Science Village. The Science Village will be designed to spark curiosityregardless of age or familiarity with science. There will be exhibits to touch, pick up, and tinker with. Curiosity can be the motivation to endless discoveries. The Science village, which will be located in downtown Timmins, will provide Science activities to families, pre-schoolers, seniors, teachers as well as the school-aged youth, It is geared to the local population, surrounding communities and to tourists. By opting to use an existing building downtown, the Science Village will help revitalize downtown by increasing the traffic flow of the local population as well as tourists and encourage the use of public transit. In conjunction with the Science Village, Science Timmins wishes to intitiate a high quality inquiry-based program to service the surrounding communities. A Science mobile will deliver activities and teacher development opportunities upon demand.
