Timmins Chamber pushes member priorities to federal policymakers in Ottawa advocacy trip

Timmins businesses' priorities were front and centre in Ottawa last week as Timmins Chamber staff advanced members' issues with partners and politicians in the nation's capital.

Nick Stewart, the Timmins Chamber's Manager of Policy, Research, and Communications, spent the week of Oct. 30 - Nov. 3 in the Ottawa offices of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) as part of a new pilot program designed to provide more federal exposure to local chambers across the country.

Throughout the five-day period, Stewart advocated for a wide range of issues of interest to Timmins Chamber members as he met with CCC policy directors and economists, traveled to Parliament Hill to meet with MPs and Canadian Senators, and sat in on Senate Finance Committee meetings on the proposed corporate tax changes.

Timmins Chamber member priorities discussed throughout the week with politicians and decision-makers in Ottawa include:
- Environmental assessment processes
- Corporate tax changes
- Skills development and workforce challenges
- Duty to consult
- Indigenous education funding
- Impact of climate change on winter road network
- Interprovincial trade
- FedNor
- ...and more.

In the coming weeks and months, the Timmins Chamber will continue to build on the many connections and conversations from the week as it looks to further advance constructive, realistic solutions that best serve its member businesses.
