Timmins Chamber to offer social media workshop series

With the rise of social media, more and more companies are looking to make sense of this new technological landscape – and the Timmins Chamber of Commerce is helping local businesses to do just that.

In response to growing demand, the Chamber is partnering with the Business Enterprise Centre to host a new workshop series, Social Media Mondays, beginning Sept. 10, 2012.
For eight weeks, participants will meet every Monday from 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on courses on how to develop a social media plan for their business, and how to successfully carry out that plan.

“Social media is becoming such a major force in the business world, which is still coming to grips with those opportunities,” said Christine Leclair, president of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.
“This has sparked tremendous interest from our members, who continue to request more and more information and tools to help them succeed in this new environment. Although we’ve hosted a few social media training sessions in the past, this really marks the first time we’re offering a workshop series that takes them from first steps and into an incredibly in-depth look at what’s available and specifically how it can work for their business.”

This short course will be taught by Jason Perratt, owner of Logikal Code, a Timmins-based full-service website design and marketing company. Throughout the eight-week run, Perratt will provide take-home advice while also allowing time for participants to come back with detailed questions on what they learned in previous weeks.
Each workshop will build on the previous one, giving attendees what they need to benefit their business in obvious and practical ways.

“What we’ve found with our previous one-off workshops is while they’ve been great for setting up a basic level of knowledge, but many businesses are looking for ways to really build that next level of social media expertise,” said Leclair. “This new eight-week format will help to build that important set of skills while allowing them to fill in whatever gaps they may discover along the way.”

The course costs $199 plus HST for Chamber members, or $250 plus HST for future members. For more information, or to register, contact Carmen Swartz, the Chamber’s member development and events specialist, at (705) 360-1900, or info@timminschamber.on.ca
