Nominations open for 2015 Nova Awards

TIMMINS, ON, December 11, 2014: Nominations are now being accepted for the Timmins Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Nova Business Excellence Awards, the region’s biggest celebration of entrepreneurial achievement.

To be held at the McIntyre Arena on Thursday, April 16, the Nova Awards are a prestigious gala event recognizing the best of Timmins business across 14 categories.

More than 600 people attended in both 2013 and 2014, and this year’s event, now in its 13th year, promises to uphold its reputation as a spectacular way to celebrate business success, according to Al Thorne, President of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.

“The annual Nova Awards are a great way for the Chamber to celebrate the best and brightest entrepreneurs in the community and shine a light on those who make Timmins a great place to do business,” said Thorne.

“We’re looking to the public to let us know who they think is worthy by nominating their friend, boss, client, family member, of even themselves.  The best can’t be celebrated unless they’re nominated.”

Nominees are now being accepted for the following awards:

  • Northern College Service Excellence Award
  • RBC Marketing Innovation Achievement Award
  • NorthernTel Productivity, Innovation & Diversification Award
  • De Beers Canada Aboriginal Partnership Award
  • City of Timmins Non-Profit Organization Award
  • Collège Boréal Young Professional Award (Under 35)
  • Caisse Populaire de Timmins New Business Award (Under 2 Years)
  • BMT Insurance & Financial Services Business Contribution to the Community Award (1-30 Employees)
  • Porcupine Gold Mines – Goldcorp Canada Ltd. Business Contribution to the Community Award (31+ Employees)
  • FNETB Best Place to Work Award
  • TD Bank Group Business of the Year Award (1-5 Employees)
  • Scotiabank Business of the Year Award (6-30 Employees)
  • Northern Credit Union Limited Business of the Year Award (31+ Employees)
  • National Bank Lifetime Business Achievement Award

This year’s Nova Awards will feature a “cirque” theme, which is fitting as the Nova Awards showcase business, group and individual success in the same way a “cirque” showcases talent, said Thorne.

“We’ve introduced a few new categories to better highlight business success, and these include the National Bank Lifetime Business Achievement Award and the NorthernTel Productivity, Innovation & Diversification Award. These categories will help us to clearly demonstrate the strength of Timmins businesses and their determination to succeed.”

Nomination packages will be made available online at http://tinyurl.com/NovaAwards2015.  Nominations will be accepted until February 5, 2015, and the finalists will be notified on February 19.

Tickets for the Nova Awards will go on sale Feb. 20, 2014.
